War
Number three, The
KJV only debacle
This war spiraled
"out of control" when a North Carolina Pastor announced that
he and fourteen (14) members of his fledgling church were going to burn
all other Bibles. Web
news and news agencies as far away as Africa along with hundreds of
other web sites and news agencies in the USA and around the world, reported that a USA
Church was going to burn Bibles!
After viewing many "KJV only" web sites and / or talking to KJV only Pastors, I'm sad to say that I have concluded that "some" KJV only Pastors -- the KJV only extremist's -- in total violation of the Word of God, thrive on controversy:
1 Timothy 3:16a
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness….”
I was asked by a Missionary, have the
KJV only
extremist's, elevated the King James Bible to the position of an
idol and idolatry?
|
Has
the The King James Bible become an idol? an object of worship? You decide:
While visiting in Grand
Rapids, Michigan a number of years ago, I was invited to an Independent Baptist
Associations Pastor's prayer day. Pastor testimonials were the last event
for the day and, with only a few minutes before everyone was to
leave, a very well known Pastor suddenly stood, held up his KJV
Bible and said,
"Men, if a person
gets saved using some other Bible other than the King James Bible,
how can he be sure
he is saved" and he continued on with more heresy.
That wasn't a testimony, it was blasphemous
propaganda that took every Pastor in that room with absolute
shock!! Since that day I have heard this very heresy repeated by others
and have even found it on KJV only web sites.
Reader (Pastor or church member), I don't know what you believe, teach and
preach. On March 7, 1982 I was ordained and sent out by my home
Church Pastor and Church membership to teach and preach that we are
"ONLY
SAVED" by
faith in the shed blood
of our Lord and
Saviour, Jesus Christ
and His resurrection
from the grave . I will teach and preach, if
necessary, from the roof tops, that no man, woman or child has
ever been saved or will
ever be saved by
faith in the dried
up ink and paper
of any King James Bible, 1611 or later!!!
Reader,
the answer to that Pastor's question concerning the assurance of his or
her salvation is:
|
1 John 5:10-13
"He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself;
he who does not believe God has made Him a
liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His
Son. [11] And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
[12] He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
[13] These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of
God, that you may know that you have eternal
life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God."
According the the word of God, that well known pastor and all others
like him who teach and preach "assurance for salvation" in
anything other than what is written in 1
John 5:9-13 are liars and unsaved.
If you believe that you were saved by the King James Bible, please
repent, confess this as sin and by faith, believe only the shed blood
and resurrection of Jesus Christ for your salvation. [John
3:16; Acts 4:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10: 9-10; 1 John 5:10-13 Read
these verses in KJV, NKJV, AMP or the NASV because each of these Bibles
will teach you the same doctrinal truth.] |
FYI:
I've read the KJV Bible,
studied the KJV Bible, witnessed from, preached from and taught from a King
James Bible for so many years that I think in King James language structure
and meter. As a matter of record, my KJV Bibles have so many
notes, notations, cross references, names, and etc. written them that they
are almost unreadable.
Because they are almost unreadable, I recently purchased another King
James Study Bible so I can begin to wear it out.
from
my limited knowledge, What
do many KJV only Church family members believe:
The adamant KJV (King James) only Pastors
believe, teach and preach that the1611 King
James Bible is the only true word of God. Why do they believe
this? They believe
that, just as was true of the 1611 KJV translators, that,
no previous or later
translators of other Bible translations had access to the original
scrolls,
therefore -- God in His Sovereignty through the power of the Holy Spirit
-- came upon
and indwelled each KJV translator and dictated word-for-word -- to those
translators the 1611
King James Bible. Because they adamantly teach and preach
this in their ministries, many of their members also believe this KJV
doctrine and witness to others the KJV only doctrine. **Before
I continue I am forced to ask the following QUESTION,
"how many foreign
Missionaries working in non-English speaking nations, i.e., tribal
evangelism, teach and preach from a KJV
Bible? Answer,
I have never heard of such a Missionary and you haven't either! My
wife and I were trained for tribal evangelism by New Tribes Missions at
the Missionary Boot Camp located in Baker, Oregon. Our Son, Douglas,
a previous missionary to Peru and a Wycliff trained language expert,
doesn't know of any such Foreign Missionaries either. The facts
are that all Foreign Missionaries must become before going to that
mission field. All Tribal Evangelism Missionaries must become
fluent in their language
(English understanding to tribal languages, not
tribal languages to English) before they are allowed to depart
for their tribal ministry. If you
and I do not know of a single Foreign Missionary ministering in NON-ENGLISH
SPEAKING NATIONS OR TRIBES that teach
and preach from a KJV Bible, **Are ALL
of these men and women of God, heretics? **Are ALL
of their converts to Christ really -- not saved?! **And, their
(Missionary) translations are
not God and Holy Spirit inspired
because you believe that the KJV Bible is the only true Holy
Spirit inspired
and preserved word of God?!!
Your
God and mine ran out of His Scriptural
preservation abilities when the 1611 KJV Bible and the
later KJV Bible
revisions were
completed? And, the only time His preservational abilities
work is when a King James Bible is being
revised? Wait a minute, a KJV
Bible revised? Correcting perfection, how can
that be possible?!! Obviously, I have a serious problem believing that
My God (Who must to be a
different God than your god) has run out of His
Preservation and indwelling Holy
Spirit Sovereignty! Folks,
I have some other serious "observational"
problems with the KJV only doctrine: 1- My first
observational
problem is:
THE ORIGINAL 1611 KING JAMES bible included
the
apocrypha books:

statement
based upon conversations with -- KJV only -- pastors and church members: A- No KJV
only pastor, teacher or student that I have ever known considers the apocryphal
writings to be inspired writings;
B- No KJV only
pastor, teacher or student that I have ever known studies and teaches or
preaches from the apocryphal writings! My
questions are:
A- Is only
part of the 1611 King James Bible inspired by God [our accepted Genesis
through Revelation] or is all of it inspired by God? It was all
included in the original 1611 KJV Bible.
B- How can the
1611 King James Bible possibly be the only true
"God, Holy Spirit" indwelled and empowered
word-for-word translation"
when it contained the Apocrypha books? 2- My
second observational
problem is:
many KJV only
pastors, teachers and leaders
have
extensive study books and aids libraries!
It is taught and literally
shouted from their pulpits that the KJV translation, (and they will hold
their personal KJV "version"
(the word version is an important word to consider)
in the air and enthusiastically wave it to emphasize the point that
their KJV version is correct in every detail even to the degree that it
actually corrects the early Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic writings from
which all other Bible translations are translated. They're
not waving a 1611 KJV, they are waving one of the many later versions of
the KJV Bible; KJV versions written to correct earlier KJV translation's
misspelled words, grammatical errors and issues of readability. It
is taught and accepted that the only book any person needs is a KJV Bible. question,
if the only book any person needs is a KJV Bible, Why do
KJV only pastors, teachers and leaders have concordances, commentaries
and / or language helps libraries at all, i.e., Strong's Greek and Hebrew Concordance, Young's Greek and Hebrew
Concordance, Thayer's Greek and
English Lexicon, Jamieson,
Faussett and Brown Commentary on the Whole Bible, Keil & Delitzsch
Commentary on the Old Testament and scores of other commentaries and language
aids? Even the KJV only Christian colleges, universities and
seminaries have large libraries that include the early language study
helps volumes. I have worn out many KJV study and
pulpit Bibles and even more pocket KJV Bibles (and, Lord willing, I will
continue to wear them out); I have studied
them from cover to cover, and, just like the KJV only men, it was necessary for me to have
a library. Until recently, my personal library contained over 2,000 volumes so that I could accurately
witness, teach and preach the Word of God. Interesting
fact from personal observation:
|
Sadly,
many KJV only men are extremist, and, yet it's obvious to me
from my "observations" of and from the
"conversations" that I have had with KJV only
extremists, they don't believe what they shout from the
pulpit and scream from their web sites that "the only
book any person needs is a KJV Bible." Wouldn't
it be logical to think that if they truly believed this -- it
wouldn't be necessary for any KJV only Pastor, teacher, leader
or Church member to do anything more than to simply read the KJV
Bible -- for a Sunday school class, worship service or Bible
study? No explanations would ever be necessary for the
following words or texts, i.e.,
*The word
"prevent" (1 Thessalonians 4:25)
*Or the words
"letteth" and "let until he be taken out of the
way"
(2
Thessalonians 2:7)
*And especially
the meaning of " But the anointing which ye have received
of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man
teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of
all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath
taught you, ye shall abide in him." [1
John 2:27] Wouldn't a membership
misunderstanding concerning this passage make quite a dent in
the membership attendance numbers Church Family budget (a
Pastor's income)?
I
suspect that even the most extreme of the extreme KJV only
Pastors and teachers will agree with me that the vast majority
of their members (and even their leaders) need help in
understanding what 1 John 2:27 and
the words found in 1 and 2nd
Thessalonians, and in many, many other verses of
Scripture truly mean.
|
3- My
third observational
problem is: that many KJV only pastors
appear to be
tragically misinformed
concerning the 1611 translation. They are adamant that
the 1611 KJV was a totally new translation that was
translated only from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek trusted texts.
The following paragraph is what King James said concerning the Bible
translations that he had available to him (copied verbatim from the original text):
The
King rejoined (means, complained) that he "Could
never yet see a Bible well translated in English; but I think that, of
all, that of Geneva is the worst. I wish some special pains were taken
for an uniform translation, which should be done by he best learned men
in both Universities, then reviewed by the Bishops, presented to the
Privy Council, lastly ratified by the Royal authority, to be read in the
whole Church, and none other."
The
truth is that the 1611 KJV Bible was a revision of the 1568 Bishop's
Bible and was written by comparing that text with the copies
of the Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic texts available to them at that time and making changes necessary for
clarification and readability as per the order of King James. The
following is the actual 1611 King James title page:
The
1611 KJV title page's central text reads: (In the Old King's English)
|
"THE HOLY BIBLE,
Conteyning the Old Teſtament,
AND THE NEW:
Newly Translated out of the Originall
tongues: & with the former Tranſlations
diligently compared and reuiſed, by his
Maiesties speciall Comandement.
Appointed to be read in Churches.
Imprinted at London by Robert Barker, Printer to the Kings
most Excellent Maiestie.
ANNO DOM. 1611 ."
|
And
exactly what did
"Translations diligently compared and reuifed,
by his Maiesties speciall
Comandement",
mean?
It meant that King James had a personal agenda, and, to assure that
agenda,
he had fifteen (15) specific rules:
|
I'VE ONLY COPIED FIVE OF THOSE RULES
1. The ordinary Bible read in the Church, commonly called the Bishops Bible, to be followed, and as little altered as the Truth of the original will permit.
2. The names of the Prophets, and the Holy Writers, with the other Names of the Text,
to be retained, as nigh as may
be, accordingly as they were vulgarly used.
3. The Old Ecclesiastical Words to be
kept, viz. the Word Church not to be translated Congregation &c.
4. When a Word hath divers Significations, that to be kept which hath been most commonly used by the most of the Ancient Fathers, being agreeable to the Propriety of the Place, and the Analogy of the
Faith.
5. The Division of the Chapters to be altered, either not at
all, or as little as may
be, if Necessity so require.
|
Because
I've read, understand and have provided for you the actual title page and five
of the fifteen king james' rules, My
conclusion is:
|
It is very evident (to me) from the King's
written orders that King James had a personal agenda for his updated
translation of the 1568 Bishop's
Bible. He desired a Bible
that was
similar to the 1568 Bishop's
Bible but easier to read and
understand. Therefore, today's King James
only Pastor Shepherds are either misinformed, and, being
misinformed, they are
teaching
a lie -- some of these individuals are
not misinformed and are deliberately
teaching
a lie. In either case the 1611 King James Bible was not
an original word for word translation. Only the original
scrolls were the word for word, God spoken and Holy Spirit inspired
documents. No Bible has ever been written using those original
scrolls.
|
4-
My
FOURTH observational
problem is: I don't know of a single King James only Pastor
who actually
studies, teaches or preaches from a
1611 King James Bible.
There may
actually be some who do, the vast majority do not.
Question: Why wouldn't these men
use the 1611 KJV when they are readily available at very reasonable prices?
Answer:
The "Old English" used in
the 1611 King James Bible is very difficult to read and even
more
difficult
to understand. For example,
read Luke 24:43 - John 1:20 from the
original
1611 King James Bible below:
Can
you picture today's Pastors, Church family leaders and Church members attempting
to read and understand the above passages? Can you now understand why even
today's KJV Bibles are the result of many textual revisions? It was
necessary that they be readable and understandable. based
upon my PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING foreign MISSIONARIES, AND, COUPLED WITH MY
KJV BIBLE observational problems, my
conclusions are:
A-
If today's Pastor Teachers are not using the original 1611
KJV in their personal and professional lives, all of their KJV reasoning and arguments
are just that, their own reasoning and arguments
and their own personal .
B- The KJV only doctrine is a blatant violation
of the Word of God because it is a doctrine / tradition of men and not of the
Lord.
|
Matthew
15:9, "And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of
men."
1 Timothy 1:4, "nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in
faith."

:
**Lost
membership; faithful "Holy Spirit gifted" and "God given"
talented men, women and children members who were helping in the
work of the ministry, leave.
A PERSONAL EXAMPLE OF THE
SINFUL INSANITY OF THE KJV ONLY DEBACLE:
A Church family that I am very familiar with became a KJV only,
Peter Ruckman disciple church. A close friend who, before this
Church Pastor's KJV only change, had been ordained and commissioned as a Missionary from
that Church to Peru and was home for deputation. While as a short termed Missionary to Peru, he,
with his Missionary partner, had started a Peruvian Independent Baptist
Church. That Church family ministry had multiplied it's ministry by starting other
Peruvian Independent Baptist
Churches. He was called into his ordaining and commissioning
Pastor's office and told that if he would not become KJV only, he
should seek out another home Pastor and sending Church.
His Pastor stated that "he
wasn't being disciplined out of the membership," he
was being told that unless he changed his position to that of KJV only, he was no longer desirable as a
member. At that time, this now undesirable Missionary member was very active and
influential with the youth ministry of his home Church family; they were experiencing some very serious sin issues
within the youth group and he was personally working with those youths and their
parents. Being led of the Lord to
"not buy into this KJV only heresy and become
a slave to Peter Ruckman and a few other KJV only apostles",
he did what his Pastor asked him to do and left his home Church. The results concerning those youths and their parents has been tragic.
**Visitors
who are genuinely Born Again, "Holy Spirit gifted" and "God
given" talented men, women and children who are looking for a
Church family in which they can fellowship and serve their Lord and Saviour,
Jesus Christ, leave after their initial visit and never return..
**The
KJV only Pastors and members are disdained
and shunned by the community of truly Fundamental Churches and Pastors
and have little to no meaningful influence outside of their
Church family.
I have
personally observed
and experienced, first hand,
the tremendous and almost irreparable damage done by the King James only dogma to individual
families and Church family ministries. The KJV only doctrine is a doctrine
of men and is pure heresy. Pastor or individual member, if you're
going to be dogmatic, argumentative and insist on a KJV Bible only
approach concerning study and ministry with me, I will obey the Word of
God, "Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and
offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them," Romans
16:17, and avoid you, your ministry and I will counsel
others to
do the same.
What are the
long lasting and devastating
results of the KJV only debacle / war:
**Spiritually
damaged men, women and children, some of whom, "now," totally
reject the Christian faith and walk and will never enter the doors of the
church again.
**Because
of all the controversy swirling around these KJV only ministries, the
unsaved simply do not trust them and countless lost and dying
men, women and children will never come to know Jesus Christ as
their personal Saviour and Lord of their lives!
**Disdained, scorned and
shunned by their communities, the very folks they need to reach.
**Spiritually quadriplegic
handicapped ministries and they don't even realize it.
|
my
based upon my personal pulpit ministries: fyi:
I will repeat, I've read the KJV Bible,
studied the KJV Bible, witnessed from, preached from and taught from a King
James Bible for so many years that I think in King James language structure and meter.
What is at issue is that I am in my late 60s which means that the vast majority
of people I hope to reach for Jesus Christ are much, much younger than I
am. THEY DO NOT READ (AND HAVE NEVER READ A KJV
BIBLE) OR THINK IN KING JAMES ENGLISH!!
Therefore, I not only use
a King James Bible, I also use the New King James Bible, the New American Standard
Bible and the Amplified Bible. My computer has many other versions on the
hard drive and when I need to confront a Jehovah Witness, a Mormon or a Muslim
with a comparison between "our true Word of the Lord" and their
perverted books, I go on line and cut, copy and compare the truth with their
perversions. All of my
King James Bibles [new and old] as well as my New King James Bible and New
American Standard Bible instructs you and me to use sound doctrine
to "exhort and convince." There is no mention of King James or
the King James Bible in the text of any Bible that I presently own or have
ever owned!! When I study and prepare, I compare text with text in conjunctive study
with the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic study aids. Also, I do not preach
in old archaic English because very few would listen, understand or return for
another lesson or message. From
my personal pastoral experience, the following are two Examples of "Biblical"
Pastoral authority as opposed to "heretical
entrapment" and Pastoral dictatorship:
My
approach, teach any and all Pastoral authority from the word of God: Hebrews 13:17, "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."
As opposed to the KJV only Pastor approach:
"I am a King James only Pastor, don't bring anything else to
church or Bible study." my first example of "pastoral bible of choice"
This is an actual event:
"Members, please bring
a King James Bible to worship services along with your Bible of
choice so that you can follow along with me in the
reading of the Scriptures and not be confused." As a
Pastor Shepherd, I do not have to demand obedience, the Word of God
demands that. As a Pastor Shepherd, how can I "command"
respect? I can't. I can demonstrate an unquestionable
love, concern and knowledge of the Word of God before my congregation
and others that will command their respect and loyalty. That can
only come through time and being their servant Mark 10:44,
"And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all."
Result: Every member did exactly that, they brought a King James Bible to
worship services. I said nothing to first time
visitors.
second
example of "pastoral bible of choice"
This is an actual event:
As the Pastor of a Baptist Church that was in
association with other Baptist Churches in a very rural area of the
Northern Peninsula of Michigan, a neighboring association Pastor angrily
called to my attention that Deacons of our ministry were eating at a
restaurant that also served alcohol. It should be noted that all restaurants of that
community served alcohol. This particular restaurant had a very good,
yet, inexpensive buffet every Tuesday evening for the supper hour.
I had an "emergency" Deacons meeting with the Deacons and
their wives and simply said that until I can sit down with that Pastor
and resolve this issue, until further notice, Deacons, do not eat or
bring your families to
that restaurant. I called this joint Deacons with their wives
meeting for a reason, I wanted their wives to know the specifics of "Pastor Kuiphoff's" mandate.
This was a "disciple training" meeting. One of the
Deacon's wives took issue
and asked why she and her husband should obey Pastor Kuiphoff. My
answer was,
"Please open your Bible to Hebrews
13:17 and I'll show you my name in your Bible, and, together we
read, 'Obey them [Pastor Kuiphoff] that have [has] the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for
they [he]
watch(s)
for your souls, as they [he] that must give
an account, that they [he] may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for
you.' When I was called as your Pastor you said to me that the Holy
Spirit directed my call and I was called by a 100% vote of the
membership."
That
was the end of the discussion and potential
problem. The
objecting association Pastor and I did discuss his issue and it
was resolved.
|
Some
Unexpected results with lasting blessings and consequences for
my "Biblical " Pastoral
approach: |
|
One of our younger
Deacons worked for a large paper mill and took my admonition
very serious. He was asked by a member of his upper level
management to go along with him and others to a college seminar
concerning recent innovations that would potentially improve
their operations. They traveled via company van. On
the way home the driver of the van and an executive decided to stop at a bar
for supper. The Deacon (who wasn't entirely happy with my
instructions), remembering what this Pastor had
instructed him concerning alcohol and restaurants politely refused and remained in the van.
After supper his immediate supervisor asked him why he stayed in
the van and hadn't eaten supper with them and he told him (while
all others listened) that his
Pastor had said that it wasn't wise for the members of his
ministry to eat in restaurants that served alcohol and he was
honoring his Pastor. I want to emphasize that he did this
"reluctantly" as he really thought I had slipped a
gear.
The result of his
honoring his Pastor and the Word of God:
During
testimony time three weeks later he told all of the members about his situation,
his reluctance to obey and then said, "My supervisor was so
impressed that I would obey my Pastor and sit in the van without
supper that I have been promoted and I have received a substantial
raise in income."
Can
you guess what Pastor was his hero? Is there something
wrong about
being a Pastor hero?!!
|
|
On the other hand, an older Deacon rebelled and did not honor his
Pastor
and the Word of God:
An older Deacon and his wife lived in another very rural berg and traveled past a
restaurant that served alcohol that also had a very good yet inexpensive buffet every Thursday evening for the supper hour. He and his wife ate
at that restaurant the following week after our Deacons and
wives meeting.
After the younger man gave his testimony, the older Deacon gave a very
different testimony. He stood and told all of the members
that he disagreed with his Pastor and that he and his wife,
the following Thursday evening, ate
at the restaurant that served alcohol. Very late Saturday
night of that week, the restaurant burned to the ground and only
the cement slab and the huge fireplace remained. The cause of the
fire? A bird had built a nest on and between the incoming power lines
under the roof overhang. The bird's nest shorted out the
power lines, caught fire and burned the restaurant to the
ground.
Can
you guess what Pastor had suddenly gained his respect? Is
there anything wrong with being a respected Pastor?
Summary:
1- My first observation
is that THE ORIGINAL 1611 KING JAMES BIBLE INCLUDED THE
APOCRYPHA BOOKS!
2- My
second observation
is that the majority of
kjv only pastor shepherds, teachers and leaders have
extensive study books and aids libraries! 3- My
THIRD observation
is that the majority of kjv only pastor shepherds ARE TRAGICALLY
MISINFORMED CONCERNING THE ACTUAL 1611 KING JAMES TRANSLATION! 4-
My fourth observation is that I don't know of a single King James only Pastor Shepherd who actually
studies, teaches or preaches from a 1611 King James Bible. my
conclusion: None
of the above observations make any sense what so ever. I'm
sure that many of these men mean well and want nothing less than
the very best for their members for whom they will give a
personal, one-for-one account: Hebrews 13:17
"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls,
as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for
you."
KJV
only pastors, it's your choice,
"biblical" Pastoral authority
or
"heretical entrapment" / "Pastoral dictatorship"
for personal gain and glory!!

From my personal
Christian and Pastoral experience, coupled with a lifetime of personal
conversations with individuals, observations, and over 14
years of having the Lord's and my "world wide web ministry", online answering emails and phone calls, I can emphatically say to you
that because of this war, ALMOST
EVERYONE IS LOSING, especially the Christian family and the lost /
unsaved observers of today's church!! Sadly, the men behind the
pulpit, my peers, are to be blamed. Sincerely,
in Jesus name,
